YES! i moved again…i’m done moving…hopefully this is the last time!
it’s official, i’m gonna be a brooklynite for awhile. and what better timing…exactly 1 year ago i quit my job, packed my bags, and got on my 1-way flight to jfk airport.
so through the infamous dino-ray, i finally met another lina sister, janet. also from TX, where EVERYTHING comes from! after sharing our similar experiences of ‘our new york transition,’ it only made sense to become roomies. so check out our ’stoop-less’ brownstone in the williamsburg part of bklyn (only one stop to manhattan).
oh, since we only have literally only the clothes off our backs, we are now excepting donations payable to the bank of erline + janet. cash, check, or charge…we also accept gift cards.
Cuz it’s the B-the-R-the-O-the-O-K
L-Y-N is the place where I stay
yes…i moved…with the other cousin. once again, it’s until i find a place of my own. i know, i know…hasn’t that been my plan all along?! what have i been doin this whole time?! well, you’re right…i’ve been just sitting on my ass! but, DON’T U WORRY, i’m finally gettin my ducks in a row!
it’s been great…well…it’s been a week…but going well
so here’s my living situation – travis’s loft. we think this bldg used to be a brewery which is historic of this area of brooklyn. we have a nice view of the empire state bldg (it’s not the picturesque skyline view but you can see it). oh, + apparently some scenes from ‘american gangster’ were filmed here.
the roommates – travis, ceasar + jennifer. and yes, they’ve been great in putting up with me which isn’t easy.
my new temporary neighborhood – it is not unlike parts of alief…beechnut…bissonnet…you know, only the ‘good’ parts. but then picture much older bldgs, an elevated subway, a lot more ppl out n about, + puerto ricans instead of mexicans [can't believe, i never really learned spanish].
don’t forget…home to jay-z, fabolous, biggie, + of course rosie perez!
finally a job offer…in queens?! yes, that’s right…queens.
sorry if i’ve been MIA with the blogging…things have been kinda rough lately. job searching is a full time job and when there are no prospects, it’s a bit hard to talk about how things aren’t going well. didn’t wanna be a nay-sayer…that’s annoying.
so check it out; this is where i’ll be for awhile. but don’t you worry, i’ll be back in the city by the summer. coincidentally, they are moving right down the street from where i’ve temping at with this PR firm (unfortunately, it never worked out with them).
they really do show movies in the park. monday after work, i got bored and decided to check out hbo’s summer film festival. it was the kick off…1st showing. they were going to play ‘annie hall.’ y’know, woody allen, diane keaton…late 70s romantic comedy. it was great, other than the fact that it was way too late to find a good spot to watch the movie. do they do this in houston? i don’t even know…besides…it’s not new york!
i even had a backstage viewing of a potential altercation! while a middle-aged couple were gathering their belongings, they offered their seats to 2 obviously-seeking-somewhere-to-sit very fob-bish girls (why dress like japanimation? i don’t get it). as these harajuku girls graciously waited on the couple’s left, some jerk-off on the right, who was already seated in his pathetic folding stool, started to grab the chair that the woman was getting up from (her man had to help her…it seemed like slow-motion). then the old man, when he saw the steal, confronted the jerk-off and it was ON! they went back and forth trading insults and the old man got crunk…yelling obscenities…it was brilliant…2 showings in one!
this one goes out to my former co-workers crew! guess what i stumbled upon after my failed attempts to acquire decent spot in the park? who knew that at one point in time one education conglomerate (that shall remain nameless) could afford all this while others took a direct hit? if it’s hard to tell from my really bad photography, it’s located right next to the very posh bryant park hotel…actually it’s part of the same bldg facade…so it maybe considered the same bldg.
so target sponsors free admission @ the moma (museum of modern art) on fridays bet. 4-8p.
boo…target…i miss target. closest one’s in brooklyn…didn’t like it…really DIRTY. i don’t understand, with their featured ‘designers’ for their apparel line every month, why are there 2 kmarts in the city and no targets??? does anyone have the answer? well, enough of that.
i never took art history, but these were beautiful. also, there were a lot of interesting collections and you didn’t need to know much about the technical stuff but you can relate from the not so distant past.
check it…
HEY JASE…LOOK WHAT I FOUND IN THE FOOD EMPORIUM @ UNION SQUARE!
it was beautiful day…or maybe it was the gray’s papaya beaming like a godsend as i ascended above ground from the [1][2][3] subway station. you’ve seen ‘you got mail,’ right? anyone know why both upper westside and village locations are employed but filipinos? no seriously…it’s vaguely reminiscent of the famed jollibee…seriously.
tank ku mum (thank you ma’am).
there’s more…see if you can recognize the scene. there’ll be a pop quiz later…bring your no. 2 pencils, sharpened
ummm….wall street. i was not impressed. it’s corporate america ladies and gentleman. it was very dreary and depressing if you ask me.
i ventured upon wall street as to keep momentum in hitting up every headhunter in town. there were 3 in the area and my attempts went unanswered. all coincidentally did not service accounting or finance placement…and all located in the ‘financial district’ within a quarter mile from wall street…who would have figured.
so i thought i would take advantage and explore this portion of lower dwntwn. hindsight…i wouldn’t have missed anything.
i saw the nyse…
and the federal hall memorial (yay…george washington took his presidential oath…not interested)…
and trinity church…yay…then i went home.
i don’t know guys…is it bad that all the power suits were just a bit unsettling to me? was it the lack of color in the neatly pressed and the ‘dry clean’ only. or was it the unfortunate shadows casted over the thousand-yr-old monuments as a result of this metropolis?
haha! don’t get too intrigued. my ‘dinner and a movie’ was at the courtesy of my cousin/roomie, kristin. but the purpose of the blog entry is to convince all to watch the indie flick ‘once.’ SOOOO GOOODDD! whole different level of good! i can’t even articulate how great! please check it out…
oh and you’ll be please to know that when referred to ‘modern-day musicial,’ it’s NOT a musical (even though i love musicals. it’s more a movie about music.
